Alan Shearer will hold more talks with the Newcastle board on Friday as the Magpies move closer to a potential takeover.

It's understood two offers are on the table for Mike Ashley to consider, although it's claimed that both are less than the owner's original £100m asking price.

Shearer has been told that both interested parties are keen for him to remain in charge of team affairs, but the former England star will be seeking further assurances before he commits permanently.

The club's leading scorer is due to meet Ashley and managing director Derek Llambias in London to get an update on the club's future, as Ashley seeks a buyer before the squad return for pre-season training on July 1.
