Danny Simpson returns to the Newcastle squad for tonight's Europa League clash with Bordeaux after recovering from a hamstring injury.

The full-back has been on the sidelines since limping out of the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa last month but has now recovered and could figure as Alan Pardew has a number of problems at the back.

Central defender Steven Taylor is definitely missing after he damaged a calf muscle at Reading on Saturday and joins Fabricio Coloccini as the Argentina ace struggles with a hamstring injury.

There is better news concerning Yohan Cabaye, who has recovered from a mouth infection and the midfielder says they have to take the Europa League seriously.

"With Lille, we played for three or four years in the Europa League, and I think that competition helped us to win the French title and the French cup," he revealed.

"It's important to play 100% in this competition to get more experience for the future. Now we have got the Europa League, so we have to play to win the game because we are playing at home.

"We know Bordeaux are a good team, but we are a good team as well, so we have to win the game to have a winning mentality."

Goalkeeper Tim Krul remains on the sidelines with an elbow injury so Steve Harper will continue in goal.
