Smith set for exit

Everton are being linked with a deadline-day move for Alan Smith but Kevin Keegan is still hoping to keep the versatile star.

Moyes wants to land Smith for £3million, which is exactly half the fee Newcastle paid for him when he moved from Manchester United last summer.

The former Leeds United hitman has failed to make much of an impact at St James' Park with no goals in 37 appearances although in his defence he has been employed in a variety roles under both Sam Allardyce and Keegan.

If all goes to plan then Smith could complete a medical and the deal at some point today although Keegan is still hoping to block the deal as he believes the former England international can be a success at St James' Park.
