Newcastle are back in the hunt for Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis, who could be on the move in January.
Gomis could be available for a cut-price fee in the new year as he is due to fall out of contract with Lyon at the end of the season and has no intention of signing a new one.
Lyon could opt to cash in rather than risk losing him for nothing, news that is sure to alert the Magpies, Swansea and Cardiff, who were all tracking him before the last deadline.
Newcastle have been boosted by the form of Loic Remy but Alan Pardew is still in the hunt for another striker and could make a move for Gomis when the window re-opens.
