Newcastle will reportedly join Norwich and Aston Villa in the race to sign FC Cluj's Senegal international winger Modou Sougou.
Magpies chief Alan Pardew is looking to bolster his squad in the January transfer window and it seems he has been alerted by the possible availability of the 27-year-old who has 11 caps for his country.
Sougou has proven he can play in the Champions League with an accomplished display in October's group clash against Manchester United, while he also found the net in Cluj's game against Galatasaray last month.
As a result Norwich, Villa and Newcastle will reportedly have scouts watching him action against Manchester United in Wednesday's return match in Europe.
The fact Sougou is Senegalese will not be an issue when trying to gain a work permit because he now has a Portuguese passport following spells playing in the country for Vitoria Setubal, Unio Leiria and Academica before he moved to Cluj last year.
It is not known if Pardew is seriously interested in Sougou but, if he is, he will have to move quickly to sign him as there appears to be plenty of competition for his signature.
