France international striker Andre-Pierre Gignac is reported to be on Newcastle's wanted list as Alan Pardew targets a new striker.
Vitesse Arnhem striker Wilfried Bony is being heavily linked with a move to St James' Park but the Magpies are looking at alternatives and Marseille frontman Gignac appears to be one of them.
The powerful 27-year-old had initially struggled with form and fitness after joining Marseille from Toulouse for £15million in 2010 but was back to his best last season when notching 18 goals.
Chief scout Graham Carr has been monitoring the striker for some time and is said to have recommended him to Pardew and new director of football Joe Kinnear.
Newcastle are on the look-out for at least one new striker and have also been linked with moves for St Etienne attacker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Aston Villa's Darren Bent.
