Toon target Ajax playmaker

Newcastle are reported to have identified Ajax playmaker Siem de Jong as the man to finally replace Yohan Cabaye.

Cabaye left St James' Park in the January transfer window and the club came in for heavy criticism after failing to replace the Frenchman before the deadline passed by.

However Pardew still has the money to spend and some of it could go on the capture of De Jong, who is the brother of current Newcastle loanee Luuk De Jong.

Whether the brothers would be reunited remains to be seen as Luuk has struggled to make an impact since arriving at the club in January, but Siem is still a target.

The 25-year-old was on Alan Pardew's wanted list last summer but a deal failed to materialise and De Jong ended up staying in Amsterdam, where he has impressed again this season.
