Newcastle are being linked with a move for Montpellier captain Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, who is targeting a move to England.

Toon boss Alan Pardew is already drawing up his list of summer transfer targets and the Frenchman is reported to be on his list as he looks to bolster his defence for next season.

Pardew has raided France with much success when bringing the likes of Yohan Cabaye to the club and it is a market he is looking to again, with Yanga-Mbiwa the target this time.

Bayern Munich have been heavily linked with a move for the 22-year-old but the player says he would prefer to move to the Premier League and that could open the door for a move to St James' Park.

"Bayern is a very big club. I'm really flattered, but my ambition is to one day play my football in England," he told skysports.

Liverpool are also being linked with a move for the player and a fee in the region of £5million would be enough to secure a move for the central defender.
