Newcastle are being linked with a move for Molde midfielder Jo Inge Berget, who could be available when the transfer window opens.

Toon boss Alan Pardew is already lining up new signings after missing out on a number of targets in the summer and the highly-rated Berget is reported to be on his wanted list.

Molde, who are managed by former Manchester United star Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, would dearly love to keep hold but know they will struggle to do so if a Premier League big gun come knocking.

The 22-year-old did have a spell with Udinese in Italy but after failing to make the grade in Serie A he returned to Norway on loan with Lyn and Stromsgodset before signing on a permanent basis for Molde.

Pardew has clearly seen something in the player though and is ready to offer £2million, which should be enough to secure a deal.
