Newcastle will make a bid for Marseille striker Loic Remy if Demba Ba makes an expected January transfer move to Chelsea.
Magpies' boss Alan Pardew, who has already made inroads to bolster his struggling squad ahead of the transfer window opening on Tuesday with a £5.5million deal agreed to sign Lille full-back Mathieu Debuchy, is busy plotting ahead in the event of Ba departing for Stamford Bridge.
The Senegal international is the Magpies' top scorer with 13 goals to his name already this season but he has a much publicised £7.5million buy-out clause which it appears Chelsea are willing to match.
Blues' interim boss Rafa Benitez claimed he was in the dark about an imminent deal to sign Ba, but reports claimed his representatives were to meet with the London club on Sunday night to discuss personal terms.
Therefore Pardew is wasting no time in time eyeing up a replacement and that could see 25-year-old France international striker, Remy, make the move to Tyneside next month.
Marseille are not keen on losing their key player, but it is thought a £10million bid would be enough to secure his services. However, several other clubs have also been linked with a swoop for Remy so Pardew will have to act quickly to get him on board.
