Newcastle seem set to miss out on Pierre-Michel Lasogga as Hamburg are the favourites to land the Hertha Berlin striker.

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is eager to add to his options in attack and was understood to be tracking the £10million-rated German striker.

However, the 22-year-old spent last season on loan at Hamburg and is keen to join the Bundesliga club on a permanent basis, according to reports in Germany.

It is understood Hertha Berlin and Hamburg have already agreed a deal that will also see midfielder Per Ciljan Skjelbred move in the opposite direction so Newcastle will now have to focus on other targets.
