United are being linked with a £10million swoop for Michael Carrick as doubts remain over his future at Tottenham.
Carrick has yet to agree a new deal at White Hart Lane and that has kicked off speculation suggesting Sir Alex Ferguson is lining up a summer swoop for the England international.
Fergie is desperate to strengthen his midfield with quality players in the summer and will be given the finances by the Glazer family to do so. A whole host of players have already been mentioned but rumours are gathering pace that Carrick is the player he wants to anchor his midfield next season.
Tottenham will do all they can to keep hold of the talented 24-year-old but they have yet to offer the player the kind of bumper contract he wants and until they do speculation will continue to rumble on.
Carrick wants a contract to put him on a par with the top earners at Spurs and Ferguson is watching developments as the situation continues to stall.
Spurs are on the verge of Champions League football though and unless Arsenal win the competition and push them into the Uefa Cup, Dutchman Martin Jol will fancy his chances of keeping the player.
