Winger Arjen Robben is still a Chelsea player and is not on the verge of joining Real Madrid, according to the Blues.

Robben did not travel with the rest of the squad for Wednesday's clash against Feyenoord and that kicked off speculation the player was in talks with Real over a move.

However, assistant boss Steve Clarke says the player is struggling with a knee injury and was left back in England as a precaution.

"Arjen did not travel because he's got a small problem with his knee," Clarke said of the situation. "He stayed behind for treatment but it's not a major problem.

"We've decided to rest him for a week to 10 days and he'll be fine after that. He's still a Chelsea player."

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon had earlier claimed that the Spanish giants were close to wrapping up a move but Chelsea insist that is not the case.
