Man United chief executive David Gill has said the famous letter he wrote to Gabriel Heinze's agent was about a move overseas.

United are determined to block Liverpool's bid to sign the defender, despite Heinze threatening to take his club to court to apparently push the move through.

Rafa Benitez became aware of the Argentinian's availability when he allegedly saw a copy of a letter written by Gill that confirmed the figure United would be prepared to sell him for - believed to be around £6million. But Gill has now said that was written with a move overseas in mind as he again stressed they are unwilling to sell him to another English club - particularly local rivals and potential title challengers Liverpool.

He said in the News of the World: "I wrote to Heinze and his agent to give them an indication of what value we require for, effectively, an overseas transfer.

"If there is overseas interest and the valuation is right, I can see him moving on."

Meanwhile, the player himself was staying tight-lipped on his future as he enjoys a holiday after competing in this summer's Copa America.

"I am on holiday but may return next week and say more," he added in the paper. "For now, I'm a United player. But I'm not saying anything else."
