Northampton striker Roy O'Donovan will be out for up to a month with a hernia problem, the Sky Bet League Two club have confirmed.

The Irish frontman will undergo surgery on Tuesday and could miss up to five games for the injury-hit Cobblers as they look to turn around a dismal run of just one win in 12.

Boss Aidy Boothroyd is already without Kevin Amankwaah, Matt Heath, Kelvin Langmead, Lewis Hornby, Alex Nicholls and Clive Platt and news of O'Donovan's injury will be hard to take for the former Watford and Coventry boss.

Northampton travel to fellow strugglers Plymouth on Saturday looking for a win which could lift them out of the bottom two.
