Norwich City are understood to be the mystery Premier League club that are close to signing Zambian striker Jacob Mulenga from Utrecht.

The 28-year-old recently admitted that his agents were in talks with a club in the English top-flight and was yesterday rumoured to be watching the 4-3 defeat to Manchester City at Carrow Road.

Mulenga is currently top scorer for Utrecht in the Dutch Eredivisie with seven in 12 starts and is keen to complete his move before he is scheduled to join up with the Zambia squad for the defence of their Africa Cup of Nations title in mid-January.

The 6ft 2in striker told the BBC last week: "I'm playing well. I'm scoring goals that I never even thought I could score - just crazy goals - and things are going really, really well."

Canaries boss Chris Hughton has been on the lookout for a striker to cover for Grant Holt since the skipper's injury and looks set to bring in Mulenga as soona as the transfer window opens in January.
