Norwich boss Chris Hughton is interested in signing Sporting Lisbon striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel but he is likely to cost too much.

The Dutch marksman's agent is in Lisbon for talks with Sporting officials after several clubs, including Norwich, enquired about signing him before the transfer deadline.

The Canaries are actively scouring the market for a new forward, with QPR's Jamie Mackie, Swansea's Danny Graham and Celtic's Gary Hooper all on Hughton's wishlist.

However, the club have also looked outside Britain for a solution to the goal problem - although Sporting's £12million asking price is currently much too high for any deal to be done.

Hughton admitted an interest in the 24-year-old striker - who cost Sporting a little over five million euros when he was signed from Utrecht.

"Yes, I have seen those reports on him and there is an interest from ourselves but how far that interest has gone from us I don't know," said Hughton.

"But certainly there is an interest."
