On-loan Norwich keeper Fraser Forster is being eyed up by Premier League Stoke as their two stoppers get linked with moves away.
Potters boss Tony Pulis is keen to sign Portsmouth's England goalkeeper David James as rumours persist about Thomas Sorensen and Steve Simonsen's future at the Britannia Stadium.
However, Forster is now emerging as an alternative target if that deal can't be done.
The 21-year-old, who's currently at Carrow Road from Newcastle, has previously been touted for moves to North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham after earning rave reviews in City's League One promotion push.
Forster is still awaiting his Magpies debut but has enjoyed loan spells at Stockport County and Bristol Rovers before arriving at City.
