Chris Hughton says he expects Russell Martin to step up his comeback from a back injury this week but refuses to set a return date.

The Scottish defender has missed the last three matches for the Canaries with a back complaint he picked up in the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa on October 27.

Since the 26-year-old's injury, Norwich have conceded just one goal with Steven Whittaker stepping into the breach and impressing on his return from a lengthy lay-off.

Despite the team's recent solidarity, Hughton is eager to have Martin back available and expects him to take part in some light training later on in the week.

"The next stage will be once he ups his running that he gets no reaction to it," he told the Eastern Daily Press. "We are due to take him out running the early part of the week and he will push on from there."
