Norwich City's Belgian scout says Anderlecht's Chancel Mbemba is a top prospect despite the doubts over his true date of birth.
Canaries scout Nico Claesen has been impressed by the versatile Anderlecht defender and DR Congo international who has been given four different birthdays, aging him somewhere between 25 and 19.
Norwich are unlikely to pursue a move in the current climate with Lazio last week issuing a robust defence of their teenage starlet Joseph Minala amid claims he was actually over 40.
Mbemba was registered by his two first Congolese clubs as being born in 1988, according to documents obtained by CNN.
Yet for an African Cup of Nations qualifier in June 2011, his year of birth was listed as November 30, 1991.
Meanwhile, the birth date recorded by his Belgian club is August 8, 1994 and the player himself thinks he was born in 1990.
Claesen is nevertheless impressed by the maturity and versatility of the Anderlecht man who signed for the Belgian champions in 2012.
"His passing is pure, he has a good dribble and drew all different offensive actions in Anderlecht," Claesen told Het Belang van Limburg.
"I followed Mbemba a few times. His has improved with coaching, he is still a bit too modest. Yet he has all the qualities to be a leader.
"He has a lot of maturity for his age, though the discussion will go on forever whether he was born in 1994 or 1988. He is versatile and can be used in various positions."
Claesen also highlighted the way that Mbemba kept his personal standards high when playing as a right back in Anderlecht's 5-0 Champions League defeat to Paris St Germain in October.
