Norwich captain Gary Doherty has praised his side's spirit after Tuesday night's victory away at Walsall.

Norwich went into the game knowing they could possibly go clear at the top of the table if results went their way but were missing top scorer Grant Holt for the game.

The Canaries went behind in dreadful conditions at the Banks stadium but two late goals from Chris Martin and Cody McDonald ensured their seventh victory in a row. They were further boosted after Leeds lost against Swindon meaning Norwich went clear at the top and Doherty knows the points against Walsall could make the difference at the end of the season.

Doherty told the club website: "These three points are massive, especially after Charlton's result.

"One thing it does show though is that anyone can beat anyone in this division. For them to drop three points was massive for us and gave us extra incentive here."
