Nottingham Forest missed out with bids to sign Nicky Shorey, Darren Pratley and Victor Moses in a frustrating day for Billy Davies.
The Forest boss was hoping to sign the three players on deadline day but will now have to use the loan market if he wants to add to his squad for the promotion run in.
Aston Villa defender Shorey ended up joining Fulham on loan for the rest of the season with a view to a permanent move, while Moses joined Wigan for £2.5million from Crystal Palace.
Swansea also threw out a bid for Pratley and Davies admitted it had been a tough day.
"It is no secret that I wanted three players during the January transfer window, in different positions," said Davies. "I am obviously disappointed but, as I said at the weekend, I will work to the best of my ability with what we have got."
