Newcastle are reported to be lining up a swoop for Nottingham Forest's versatile star James Perch.

Reports in the north east have even gone as far as suggesting that a bid has gone in for the 24-year-old and that Magpies boss Chris Hughton is confident of wrapping up a deal.

Forest boss Billy Davies will be reluctant to sell Perch, particularly to a promotion rival, but the club's resolve may be tested if Newcastle make an approach.

Perch is back in the Forest side after recovering from a stress fracture of the shin but if reports are to be believed he could soon be heading for St James' Park.
