Notts County boss Martin Allen is poised for talks with the club's board with as many as 16 players set to be out of contract at Meadow Lane.

Goalkeeper Stuart Nelson, and ever-present so far this season, and defender Mike Edwards are two key players whose deals will run out in the summer.

The duo, along with the likes of strikers Karl Hawley and Ben Burgess, defenders Stephen Hunt, who has not played a game for Notts since last January because of injuries, and Sam Sodje, midfielders Charlie Allen and Ishmel Demontagnac, and first-year professionals Liam Mitchell, Haydn Hollis and George Nicholas are all free to talk to other clubs.

"That's the way it is now. Yes, our players who are out of contract can talk to other clubs, that's right. Do I like it? It doesn't matter whether I like it or not, they are the rules," Allen told the Nottingham Post.

"There are a lot of players out of contract at the end of the season so this really is a transitional period. I need to have a chat with the chief executive (Jim Rodwell) and the chairman (Ray Trew). It's going to be a very busy eight months."

Goalkeeper Rob Burch, defenders Jon Harley and Liam Chilvers and midfielders Ricky Ravenhill and John Spicer are also out of contract in the summer but they are likely to leave the club having featured very little for the Magpies this season.
