Robbie Simpson is set to hand a boost to boss Paul Dickov when Oldham host Doncaster in the second round of the FA Cup.
Simpson, who has been deployed in attack and midfield by Dickov this season, has missed the last three games through a groin injury but was due back in training on Friday.
Defender James Tarkowski could also make a welcome return from a foot injury, but Cliff Byrne's suspension for collecting five yellow cards is likely to result in on-loan Manchester City right-back Reece Wabara reverting to centre-half.
Goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis is also suspended having received a straight red card during Latics' 1-0 npower League One defeat to Rovers on Tuesday night - a clash that also saw opposition forward Iain Hume dismissed courtesy of a second yellow.
Latics have invoked Alex Cisak's 24-hour return clause from his loan spell with Portsmouth. The 23-year-old keeper trained with Oldham on Thursday, but the club are still waiting on the required clearance from the Football League to confirm his participation.
