GB Cycling net Sky deal

Other SportsIn a multi-million pound deal, Sky has announced it has become British Cycling's main partner for the next five years.

The deal will provide plenty of financial backing for British cyclists up to and beyond the London Olympics in 2012.

There are plans to improve every level of the sport from the Elite Team of World, Olympic and Paralympic cyclists to British Cycling's grass roots initiatives in schools and communities.

As well as the funding, Sky also intends to heavily promote the sport via its various media platforms in a move to encourage people to get involved.

It is a deal that excites British Cycling's performance director, David Brailsford, who said: "I believe this partnership will create a step change for cycling.

"Cycling is already one of Britain's sporting success stories and this is a truly exciting opportunity to grow the sport even further.

"Sky is a committed and passionate partner for British Cycling. Working together, we can take elite cycling to new heights and get more people involved in the sport at all levels."
