"I can understand why people say maybe time has caught up with me, maybe I'm showing signs of wear and tear but I don't know that," he said.
When asked if he would retire if he lost, he replied: "I probably would, yeah."
Hatton is now being trained by Floyd Mayweather Sr for his bout with Malignaggi in Las Vegas on November 22 - scene of his defeat to the now retired Mayweather Jr.
The Manchester boxer says he would relish a rematch if he were to reverse his decision - but he admitted it would be "a touchy subject" for his new trainer.
"Floyd Sr is of the opinion that Floyd Jr has forgotten that his dad helped him to get to the top, but I'm not going to ask too many questions about their relationship," he said.
