Welsh star swims his way to silver

Other SportsGreat Britain's David Davies took Olympic silver in the men's 10km swim, just missing out on another gold for Team GB.

The Welshman led for most of the long-distance swim and looked to be on course for top spot, but was pipped to gold by just 1.5 seconds by Holland's Maarten van der Weijden.

Germany's Thomas Lurz took the bronze, but despite just missing top spot, Davies was delighted with his silver, especially after claiming bronze in Athens four years ago.

The 23-year-old told the BBC: "It's going to take a while for it to sink in, but it's a proud moment for me.

"I gave it everything and that was what I wanted to do and I have something to show for it," said Barry-bred Davies, who needed treatment at the end of the race.

"I like swimming from the front but that last lap was a real struggle and the final section was a blur. I was delirious but the stretcher at the end was a bit mad. I just wanted to lie down and have a sleep."
