U's cup clash washed out

Last Updated: Wed, 20 Nov 2013 19:04

Oxford's FA Cup first-round replay at Gateshead has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Heavy rain in the north east left areas of the playing surface at the International Stadium under water and the tie was called off little more than an hour before kick-off.

A statement on Oxford's official Twitter feed said: "Commiserations to the travelling fans who have made the long trip to Gateshead in vain. No surprise the game is off.

"No news yet on when the rearranged game will take place, but it will have to be soon. No let up here in the torrential rain."
