Peterborough United manager Mark Cooper wants to sign Arsenal full-back Kerrea Gilbert as he again looks to improve his playing squad.

Cooper has been forced to switch targets after Southend defender Simon Francis rejected a move to London Road last week.

Gilbert was linked with a loan move to Posh in November and he remains high on the manager's list of targets.

The right-back is out of contract at the end of the season and Cooper believes he would be a valuable addition to his ranks.

"It was disappointing to miss out on Simon, but Kerrea would be an excellent player for our squad," said Cooper.

The 22-year-old has played three times for Arsenal's first team during the current campaign and spent last season on loan with Leicester after prevous stints with Cardiff City and Southend.
