Paul Sturrock isn't expecting a huge transfer kitty at Plymouth despite the restructuring of the club's board of directors on Thursday.

The Pilgrims chief has broken his silence on the Home Park change over which has seen Sir Roy Gardner replace Paul Stapleton as chairman after Japanese director Yasuaki Kagami became the club's largest single shareholder. Kagami's business partner George Synan has also joined the board, as has Argyle supporter Keith Todd.

Sturrock will hold discussions with the new chairman in the coming days about how much cash he will have to bring in new faces, but he does not expect a blank cheque.

He told the Herald: "We have to be realistic. The chairman has made it plain that there has to be a sensibility first.

"We have to get the ship on an even keel, and then we can kick on from there. I'm quite receptive to that. I've lived with budgets in the past, and I appreciate that we are over-budget."

Meanwhile Sturrock revealed some sadness at Stapleton stepping aside given that he took charge of the Pilgrims when the Scot started his first spell as manager in 2000 and guided the side to the old Division Three title two years later.

Sturrock added: "It's a bit sad, because I had a relationship with the old board. We've been very successful in all the years that they've been in charge.

"We've gone up two leagues in that time, and I'm pleased that the old board is going to amalgamate with the new board that is coming in. Hopefully, it will make the club stronger."
