Port Vale manager Micky Adams was left frustrated after seeing his side lose their 100% record in pre-season with a 1-1 draw at non-league side Tiverton Town.
The manner of the goal Vale conceded annoyed Adams and he wants his players to learn from the mistakes they made.
He told the club's official website: "Pre-season is all about learning and I think the goal we conceded was a mistake and I would like to think that in the course of a season that wouldn't be repeated, because I would like to see that stuck into the stand.
"But what pre-season does, when it becomes a little bit easy you get into bad habits and you have got to get out of bad habits and that's the first thing."
Vale wasted several chances before Ben Williamson headed in the equalising goal.
Adams added: "Secondly, we have missed a hat full of chances like you wouldn't believe and I think the goalkeeper has had a good day for them.
"He has had a bit of luck as well, but it could easily have been a handful of goals - we haven't got them and we have drawn one-all.
"I thought Tiverton were excellent. I thought they worked as hard as they possibly could, they are a young and enthusiastic side and it was just the test that we needed."
