Port Vale chairman Bill Bratt has dismissed rumours of a Wolves bid for 18-goal striker Leon Constantine.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has stepped up his chase of the striker since being priced out of bids for Scunthorpe United's Billy Sharp and Rotherham's Will Hoskins.
But Constantine, who is in red hot form with five goals in his last six games, will not be allowed to leave on the cheap with talk of a £250,000 bid on the grapevine.
But Bratt insisted no enquiries had been made for the 28-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer.
He said: "Neither I nor Martin Foyle have heard anything from anybody, and that includes anything official in a letter or a quick phone call enquiring about Leon.
"When somebody scores a lot of goals they are obviously going to attract interest from other clubs.
"But we do not want to sell him. We are going to need our best players if we are to fulfil our ambition to make the League One play-offs.
"At the moment we are not far off that, so why would we be looking to sell our leading scorer?
"If a club came in with an offer for Leon that was around £100,000 then it would be rejected. But if the offer was nearer our valuation, and the player wanted to speak to the interested club, then it would be difficult to stand in his way."
