Algerian left-back deal on

PortsmouthPompey have reportedly won the race to sign Lens left-back Nadir Beldadj after agreeing a fee of £3million for the Algerian.

Belhadj is set to sign a four-year contract at Fratton Park and arrive in time to begin training with the squad next week.

Harry Redknapp has been on the lookout for a natural left-sided defender all summer as he seeks to cover that position which was predominantly filled by the right-footed Noe Pamarot and Hermann Hreidarsson last term.

Monaco were also in for the 26-year-old ex-Lyon defender - but the lure of English football proved too much for him to stay in Ligue 1.

Lens have recouped the £3million they paid Lyon for him in January and let him go after just 19 first-team appearances.
