Portsmouth manager Michael Appleton has backed Roy Hodgson to be a success as England manager.
West Brom boss Hodgson is currently holding talks with the Football Association about taking over the national side.
Appleton was first-team coach alongside Hodgson at The Hawthorns until he quit to take over at Pompey in November.
He told Sky Sports: "I think he will make a very good England manager. He's had the experience from working as a national coach before working in the UAE, with the Swiss side and the Finland team as well.
"He certainly knows all the players, he has worked with the majority of players, or if not with them then he has certainly worked against them with his teams over in England.
"I think he is obviously at the right age in terms of the end of his career, in terms of working with teams and management from day-to-day. I think he will be ideal."
