Arsenal starlet signs

PortsmouthPortsmouth have signed Arsenal's teenage left-back Armand Traore on a season-long loan deal.

The 18-year-old Frenchman was allowed to leave after Arsene Wenger pulled off the shock swoop for ex-Man Utd defender Mikael Silvestre.

Traore's arrival will put pressure on Hermann Hreidarsson in the Blues' defence and it was only allowed to occur after Pompey had signed Jerome Thomas on a permanent deal hours earlier to free up one of their loan allocation slots.

Traore, no relation to Pompey defender Djimi Traore, has made 18 appearances at the Emirates since joining the club from Monaco in 2005.
