Dennis Bergkamp has revealed Tony Adams offered him a coaching job at Portsmouth but admitted it has come too soon for him.

The former Holland international had been linked with a move to Fratton Park when his old Arsenal skipper had got the job to take over from Harry Redknapp. However, nothing came of the reports as Johnny Metgod was eventually handed the post of first-team coach last week.

But Bergkamp, who is currently combining a role at Ajax with the Dutch youth side - as he works on securing his coaching badges - is happy to stay on in Holland at the moment, but refused to rule out linking up with Adams in the future.

"Tony Adams has approached me to be an assistant at Portsmouth, but I think it is too early for that," he told the Dutch media.

"First I must finish my course and we will see after that."
