Nugent ready for big chance

David Nugent is looking to show Portsmouth fans "what I can really do" if he gets his big chance in the FA Cup against West Brom.

The £6million signing from Preston has so far failed to make any impact at Fratton Park but could be thrust into the spotlight on Saturday at Wembley because Jermain Defoe is cup-tied.

Nugent, who was wanted by Ipswich prior to the loan deadline, knows he needs to step up on the big stage and finally prove his worth to manager Harry Redknapp after finally getting back his match fitness following a recent hernia operation.

He said: "I'm injury free now and its all about wanting to show what I can really do.

"I've played in discomfort for some time but I don't feel I've given enough to this football club yet."

Nugent added: "I want to prove I'm good enough for the Premier League and the chance to play in the semi-final of the FA Cup could be the ideal way to do it."
