Portsmouth have been dealt a huge injury blow with the news David James could miss the next three weeks with a calf strain.

The 39-year-old suffered the injury during the warm-up for Sunday's defeat at Stoke and following a scan discovered that he will miss Pompey's next four games.

The Premier League's bottom side face Manchester United next Saturday, before a Carling Cup game with Aston Villa on the Tuesday, followed by matches against Burnley and Sunderland.

James has played down his latest injury, claiming that he is happy it is just a minor tear, as he bids to force his way back into the England set-up having missed every international game since April through injury.

James' latest injury has forced Pompey manager Paul Hart to recall Asmir Begovic from his loan spell at Ipswich while cancelling Jamie Ashdown's temporary move to Brighton.
