Pompey's Blues swoop in doubt

PortsmouthLuiz Felipe Scolari claims Shaun Wright-Phillips is fully committed to Chelsea despite reports linking him with a move to Portsmouth.

The Blues new head coach has spoken out following suggestions that the 26-year-old right-sided England international midfielder was set to link up with Harry Redknapp's FA Cup winners after struggling to secure first-team football at Stamford Bridge.

Wright-Phillips has only made 65 starts and a further 59 substitute appearances in the three years he has spent with the Blues since joining from Manchester City. However Scolari insists the player would like to stay put and fight for his place in the team.

Speaking after the club's 7-0 mauling of Chengdu Blades on the pre-season tour of China, the Brazilian said: "I have not asked him if he wants to go to another team.

"He is here and is playing for Chelsea. I don't know anything about him wanting to go to another team. He is training very well every day and he is a very important player for us.

"This is the first time I have heard anything about Shaun Wright-Phillips wanting to move. I will have to ask him if he wants a change."
