Redknapp cools on trial duo

PortsmouthHarry Redknapp has cooled his interest in Jordi Lopez and admits he will not be offering Celestine Babayaro a deal at Portsmouth.

Babayaro, who is without a club, has been training with the club since pre-season began last month, although he missed a spell after contracting malaria.

But there's no contract on offer from Redknapp who watched the ex-Chelsea defender play against Ajax Cape Town and Kano Pillars, before declaring he wasn't what he wanted.

But Lopez featured in the 4-1 friendly win over Gosport Borough on Tuesday night and could still forde his way in through the door.

The former Real Madrid midfielder impressed in a holding role at Privett Park and has until tomorrow before his week-long trial ends.

The Spaniard is also a free agent, having left Real Mallorca at the end of last season.

Redknapp said: "Unfortunately Babayaro is not what I need, so there won't be anything going there.

"I am not sure about Jordi at the moment, though. We've had him here this week and you can see he's a decent player.

"He's still here. We're just having at look at him so we'll wait and see what happens.

"The lad's a good player' though. We'll take it from there really."
