Redknapp rejects Rangers' Mendes bid

PortsmouthRangers look set to miss out on Portsmouth midfielder Pedro Mendes after Pompey agreed to sell Sulley Muntari.

The FA Cup holders look set to let Muntari leave the club after agreeing a £12m plus fee with Inter Milan which has left Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp reluctant to allow any more players to leave.

Redknapp confirmed that he would allow Mendes to leave if he received an offer which was too good to refuse, although it seems unlikely that Rangers will now get the Portuguese midfielder with their original £2.5m bid.

"Yes, I did speak to Walter about a couple of players and he said he liked Mendes," Redknapp told the Daily Record.

"I think his wages might have been an issue for Rangers but the biggest problem is that with Muntari going I will need Pedro in my team.

"He played his way back into our side for the FA Cup Final - he's a terrific player and a really good lad - and now Muntari is leaving I need him to stay.

"Pedro is not a player I want to lose.

"Because of the Muntari deal I don't need to sell anyone else so it would take a big offer for me to consider letting Pedro go."
