Preston boss Darren Ferguson is hoping the capture of Keith Treacy softens the blow from the demoralising 4-1 home defeat to Barnsley.

PNE went down the heavy defeat on Tuesday and afterwards the new boss admitted it was hard to take but he hopes Treacy can add quality to the side in the coming weeks following his move from Sheffield United before the transfer window closed.

Ferguson said: "He's a young one with good potential.

"He did well and we are glad to get him in, but losing tonight was a blow."

Ferguson admitted the clash against Swansea at the weekend now takes on even more importance following the heavy defeat.

He added: "We've got a really hard game at Swansea on Saturday and we have to go again."
