Wayne Henderson says he is fit and ready for pre-season and will battle it out with Andy Lonergan to be Preston's first-choice keeper.

The 25-year-old has spent much of the last two years on the sidelines due to injury, but did prove he was back to full fitness during a loan spell at Grimsby towards the end of last season.

Henderson, who joined the squad for the first day of pre-season this week, has his sights set now on a chance with North End and can't wait for the new season to get underway.

He told the Preston club website: "It's a whole new season again. I missed the majority of pre-season last year but I have heard enough talk from the rest of the lads to know what to expect.

"I have worked hard in the summer and come back in decent shape and I am looking forward to it."
