Chairman Derek Shaw has stated Preston are close to signing two new players but that they have to be sensible in the transfer market.
The Deepdale chief claims Alan Irvine is closing in on a double swoop but has again reiterated that North End will have to be shrewd when it comes to new additions.
Shaw has revealed that Preston agreed a fee with Watford for Lee Williamson, but that the midfielder chose instead to join Sheffield United because of their financial status.
The chairman told the Evening Post: "We had hoped Lee would be joining us, but he has made another choice and while it is a disappointment it is also the reality of the economics of football.
"We will continue to try to strengthen the squad from the resources we have available - but we have to be sensible."
