Goalkeeper Steve Simonsen has had his contract with Preston cancelled by mutual consent.

Simonsen joined the Lilywhites just before the start of the season, having been released by Sheffield United during the summer.

The 33-year-old made his first start for the club in the Capital One Cup win over Crystal Palace at Deepdale and went on to make a total of 16 starts.

His last appearance ended with him suffering a knee injury late on in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat at Coventry earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Preston's npower League One fixture away at Yeovil has been rearranged for next month.

The game at Huish Park was originally scheduled for Saturday but was postponed due to the wintery weather.

It will now take place on Tuesday, February 12 and kick-off at 7.45pm.

A statement on North End's official website said: "Tickets purchased for the original game will be valid, although those not able to make the new date will be able to return their tickets to the Deepdale ticket office to claim a refund.

"This must be done before the day of the game."
