Graham Westley wants his Preston squad to use the pain of Thursday night's Johnstone's Paint Trophy heartache to drive them up the npower League One table.

North End were 2-1 up heading into stoppage time against Coventry at the Ricoh Arena in the Northern Area semi-final before stoppage-time goals from Carl Baker and Leon Clarke ended their Wembley Dream.

Westley must now pick up the pieces of a faltering league campaign ahead of celebrating one year in the Deepdale hotseat against Walsall on Sunday.

"A realistic opportunity in terms of any silverware is to string together some results and force our way up the league," he told the Lancashire Evening Post.

"If the lads keep playing with the intensity, desire and quality they showed at times on Thursday and we get a consistent side on the pitch, I think they have a good opportunity to kick-on their season.

"That is the objective, that is what our focus is on. The pain you face when things don't go your way can be a great motivator to make sure you don't face it again."
