QPR midfielder Joey Barton, currently on loan with Marseille, has reportedly been urged to terminate his contract by his parent club.

Barton has stated he has no intention of returning to Loftus Road having joined French side Marseille on a season-long loan in the summer.

However, QPR are still paying Barton around £300,000 a month, according to reports, and the Premier League strugglers are keen to get him off the wage bill.

The 30-year-old midfielder has been a success at Marseille despite the fact he was banned from making his Ligue 1 debut until November and may agree a permanent deal with the French giants.

If Barton did agree to terminate his contract and become a free agent it has been speculated he will have offers from elsewhere and could return to the Premier League with Everton, while Spanish side Valencia have also been credited with an interest.
