Dowie warns R's to forget hype

QPRIain Dowie has told his QPR players to forget the hype surrounding how much money the club has and start focusing on getting results.

The R's boss was forced to warn his players following a lacklustre performance in Saturday's convincing 3-0 defeat at Sheffield United which showed the pre-season promotion favourites that the money behind the club will not guarantee Premier League football come next May.

Dowie is not worried yet, but says Christmas will be the time to assess their progress, while he warned that the players will have to take on the challenge of being favourites in games.

"The expectation surrounding the club is something we are going to have to cope with," he said.

"Come Christmas time I want people to talk about us as promotion candidates. We want to make the dream come true, but it is going to take a lot of hard work."
