QPR manager Jim Magilton has revealed he is keen to sign loan star Ben Watson on a permanent deal when the transfer window opens.

The 24-year-old is on loan from Wigan until the end of the year having failed to break into the Latics first joining since the Premier League side in January.

Rangers made a failed attempt to sign the midfielder before he joined Wigan but now may get a second chance with Roberto Martinez deeming him surplus to requirements.

"I'd like to keep Ben at the club. If we can keep him until the end of the season or do a deal to sign him then I'd be delighted," said Magilton.

"It's something we'll leave to the money men. I definitely want him. He's a player I rate highly. He is energetic, keen and ambitious."
